As a handgun instructor for the past twenty-seven (27) years, it’s rare that I find new technology that assists my students in becoming proficient with the use of a handgun. That’s all changed in the recent past. I’ve have become a true believer in the ReadyShot Target System.
As a Maryland State Licensed & Certified Handgun Instructor, as well as a Washington D.C. Licensed & Certified Handgun Instructor, I deal with students in both jurisdictions that require an extensive amount of training. To enhance the training with no additional costs to the students, I created a lesson plan that incorporates the ReadyShot Target System. The students, and the agencies they represent, are extremely appreciative that training costs can be kept under control and actual handguns are being utilized in the training. By using the ReadyShot Target System, I’ve incorporated state of the art technology into handgun instruction.
Handgun Instruction is not as easy as one would think, especially when the instructor is truly a professional educator. The instructor must take into consideration the learning style of each and every student. Then a lesson plan must be created that addresses each student’s learning style. Not an easy task I assure you. Using the ReadyShot Target System and the lesson plans I’ve created has allowed each student to have an enhanced training experience. The audio, visual, and kinesthetic modalities of learning are all present in each class. When an instructor can have each student incorporate all five senses (taste, touch, feel, smell, and sight, or as many as practical) into lesson plans, the chances of learning and then retaining skills and knowledge are greatly increased.
Some people believe that practice makes perfect. But that is not true if the practice is flawed. What is necessary is for the practice to be perfect, which then leads to perfect performance…perfect practice makes perfect performance. Using ReadyShot in the lesson plans provides immediate feedback during practice, so that errors in technique can be corrected and perfect practice can resume.
ReadyShot allows the instructor and each student to perfectly practice the skills necessary to become a proficient handgun shooter. Once proficiency skills are obtained, each student can maintain a high level of proficiency using the ReadyShot Target System without incurring excessive ammunition costs, wasted time traveling to a range, waiting to get a firing lane, etc., etc. etc.
Every handgun owner/user must force themselves to overcome any and all obstacles when it comes to becoming and remaining proficient. No excuses are justified and/or rationalized when it comes to not training or practicing shooting skills. Lives are in danger when the public at large comes into contact with a handgun owner/user who refuses to remain proficient.
